Reverse Audio Generator

Play any recording backwards. Open a file, preview it reversed and download the result.

Runs in your browser. Files you open stay on your device and are never uploaded.

Open an audio file (or the sample) to hear it backwards.

How to use it

  1. 1. Open an audio file (MP3, WAV, M4A or OGG).
  2. 2. Press play to hear it reversed.
  3. 3. Download the reversed audio as a WAV file.

Backwards voices and hidden messages

Reversed audio has a long history in horror: backwards chanting, rumours of hidden messages in records, the strange half-words a sentence becomes when played in reverse. Speech sounds familiar yet unplaceable, because breaths come before words and consonants swell instead of decaying.

The file is decoded and reversed sample by sample on your device. The reversed version can be played immediately and saved as an uncompressed WAV file, ready for video or audio editing software.

Questions

Which formats can I open?

Any format your browser can play, which includes MP3, WAV, M4A/AAC and usually OGG.

Is the file uploaded?

No. Decoding and reversing happen in your browser.

Why is the download larger than my file?

WAV is uncompressed, so it is bigger than a compressed MP3 of the same length, but it keeps the full quality.
