How to use it

  1. 1. Choose a background image.
  2. 2. Type a short title (two to five words read best) and pick a layout.
  3. 3. Apply a grade and nudge the title position; check the small preview.
  4. 4. Download the thumbnail at 1280×720.

Thumbnails that read at a glance

A thumbnail is usually seen at around 200 pixels wide, beside a dozen others. At that size only three things survive: one clear subject, a few large words and strong contrast. Serious horror channels tend to avoid cartoon arrows and shocked faces in favour of a dark image with a single, legible line of type.

The layouts here follow that approach: title left or right of the subject, a lower-third band, or a centred title over a darkened frame. A live preview at the size YouTube shows on a phone tells you whether the title is still readable before you export.

Questions

What size and format is the download?

1280×720 pixels (16:9) as a JPEG under 2 MB, which matches YouTube's thumbnail requirements.

Can I use any image as the background?

Use images you have the right to use, such as frames from your own video or photos you took.

Is anything uploaded?

No. The thumbnail is drawn and exported in your browser.
